I've been messing about in the kitchen, and I've cracked it – a proper good Five Guys Fakeaway burger recipe that you can whip up at home. Trust me, it's a game-changer.

This is one of my favourite minced beef recipes! You have to love a healthier version of a burger...

Are you tired of spending a fortune on fast-food burgers that never quite hit the mark? With this recipe, you can recreate the iconic Five Guys burger in the comfort of your own home! No need to stand in long lines or settle for subpar ingredients - this recipe will show you how to make a delicious and juicy burger that rivals the real thing

Why I reckon you'll love this:

Proper Five Guys Flavour: I've spent ages getting the taste right, using decent beef and all the bits and bobs you'd find in the real deal, all easily found down the local shops.

Make it Your Own: Like at Five Guys, you can chuck on whatever toppings you fancy. Cheese, bacon, onions, mushrooms – you name it, it goes.

Dead Easy: Even if you're not a proper chef, you can nail this. I've written it out step-by-step, so you can't go wrong.

Saves You a Bob or Two: Let's face it, eating out can be pricey. This way, you get the same top-notch burger for a fraction of the cost.

I made a lower-fat burger with 5% fat mince, didn't use any oil in the frying, used my Air Fryer for air-fried chips and used lower-fat mayo and low-sugar ketchup. I had to use a proper white burger bun for authenticity, and American cheese slices.

The secret to the perfect Five Guys burger is in the ingredients and preparation. This recipe will guide you through the process of selecting the right type of ground beef, forming and seasoning the patties, and grilling them to perfection. With a few simple steps and some basic cooking skills, you'll be able to make burgers that are just as good as the ones you'd get at a Five Guys restaurant.

One of the best things about this recipe is that it's completely customizable. You can choose your own toppings and condiments, and even experiment with different types of cheese. Whether you prefer a classic burger with lettuce, tomato, and pickles, or a more adventurous combination with bacon and avocado, this recipe will show you how to make a burger that's tailored to your tastes.

Is there anything better than a Phat Bun?

An amazing Slimming friendly Five Guys Fakeaway Recipe

Ingredients

  • For the burger:
  • 450g extra lean (less than 5% fat) beef mince
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp fat free natural yogurt
  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Toppings:
  • 4 Bacon Medallions, cubed
  • 4 American Cheese Slices
  • Handful of mushrooms, finely chopped
  • Handful of onions, finely chopped
  • Iceburge lettuce, cut into small strips
  • 1 Beef tomato, slices
  • White burger buns
  • 1 pickled gherkin, sliced
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • mayo

Instructions

  1. To make the burgers, gently fry off the chopped onion until cooked through, being careful that the onion doesn't go brown or black! Once cooked, set aside to cool
  2. Add the garlic, a pinch of salt & pepper, yogurt and the cooled onions to the minced beef and mix together until blended.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 portions and using your hands, shape each portion into a burger. Set aside.
  4. Place a frying pan sprayed with low calorie oil spray over a medium-high heat and cook the onions and mushrooms, then remove and set aside.
  5. Repeat with the bacon chunks, remove and set aside.
  6. Start to fry off the burgers in a pan with a medium heat.
  7. Mean while prepare the buns. The 'Five Guys' way requires 1 tbsp ketchup and 1 tsp mustard are added to the bottom of the bun. Then pile the onions and mushrooms on top.
  8. On the other half, add 1 tbsp mayo and the shredded lettuce and sliced pickles. You would add the tomatoes to the lettuce and pickles as well. I don't like tomatoes, so left them out of mine.
  9. When the burgers have cooked all the way through, add a slice of cheese onto each one. Then top with the cooked bacon.
  10. When the burgers have cooked, stack them on the bottom of the bun with the mushroom and ketchup them
  11. Wrap them in foil and leave for 3 minutes to give that authentic taste.

Notes

Makes 2 portions which is 2x2 burgers.

You can adjust the toppings to suit your preference.
