Turtle Bay have been bringing a brand new, blissful Caribbean dining and drinking experience to the people of Exeter for just over a month. It has proved insanely popular with tables in high demand. We have been back a few times since we visited for a special preview evening.
One of our favourite things about the restaurant is the great atmosphere ad friendly staff. There is just an all round good vibe from the minute you walk in. We love the amazing rum cocktails and got stuck right in with some rum punch!
Crispy spiced coated squid, mango mole, fresh lime & coriander mayo. It was different to most other squid he has eaten because instead of rings it was thin strips. There was a good amount of spice and the squid was cooked well.
I went for 'Hot hot Pepper Roti'. Trini-style oven baked roti stuffed with shredded cheese, carrots, potatoes & onion. Served with scotch bonnet & herb mayo. Although it is spicy there is still enough flavour to make it a really enjoyable dish, and the mayo actually helps cool the spice. I really enjoyed it and it would work great as a light nibble with some drink as well.
I chose a lighter main in the 'Kingston Pulled Pork Toastie'. Slow-roasted pulled jerk pork, cheese, onion chutney & rocket. Bread toasted with garlic butter & served with West Indian hot sauce, Caribbean slaw &cheesy sweet potato fries. Although it is on the menu as a 'light bite' I found the portion to be a generous size. There was plenty of pork and cheese in the toastie and the chops were amazing!
I was gutted that the cheesecake we tried at the launch event had run out, but I chose my second favourite. 'Zesty lemon & lime tart' Oven baked light lemon & lime tart drizzled with a passion fruit sauce. It is an amazing pallet cleanser and so, so zesty! A perfect end to a perfect meal.
